Air New Zealand has announced a major expansion of its South Island operations, unveiling three new non-stop international services from Christchurch Airport to Singapore, Tokyo (Narita), and Perth. The move is being described as one of the most significant boosts to Christchurch’s international connectivity in years and signals renewed confidence in tourism, trade, and aviation growth across the South Island.

The new routes will begin rolling out from late October 2026, with Christchurch–Singapore launching first on October 28, followed by Christchurch–Tokyo Narita on November 28, and Christchurch–Perth on November 30. Flights are already on sale, pending final regulatory approvals.

The announcement was made during TRENZ 2026 in Auckland, with Air New Zealand Chief Executive Nikhil Ravishankar joined by Christchurch Airport Chief Executive Justin Watson and government representatives.

The expansion comes as Air New Zealand regains access to more Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft after global engine maintenance issues temporarily reduced fleet availability. The return of those aircraft, combined with new Dreamliners entering service, has enabled the airline to restart long-haul growth plans.

Ravishankar said the new routes are designed to “reconnect Christchurch directly to major global hubs in Asia” while strengthening links into Australia and reshaping how visitors travel through New Zealand.
