What's New: Coronet Ridge Resort, Queenstown

Following a recent conservation expedition in Fiordland I took part in, I was fortunate to stay a night at Coronet Ridge Resort in Queenstown, which reopened earlier this year following a significant multi million dollar transformation of the former Nugget Point Hotel. While after several days on expedition I would probably have found even a broom closet comfortable, I was genuinely delighted to experience this beautifully reimagined property and it has quickly become one of my favourite places to stay in Queenstown! The property itself sits perched above the Shotover River in Arthurs Point, allowing you to feel immersed in nature while still being close to Queenstown.

What immediately stood out to me was just how thoughtfully the entire resort has been designed. Every detail appears to have been carefully considered, creating a stay that feels both luxurious and incredibly comfortable. The guest rooms are spacious and the bathrooms are particularly impressive, offering generous vanity space - something many travellers, especially women, will appreciate and most feature deep bathtubs – the perfect way to relax after a day of exploring.

The resort's interiors strike a balance between contemporary alpine luxury and a strong sense of place. Local photography showcasing the region's rivers, mountains and landscapes lines the hallways adding a genuine connection to the surrounding environment.

Dining at Elevation Bar and Restaurant was another highlight. Aptly named, the restaurant enjoys spectacular views across the Shotover River and welcomes diners with a relaxed atmosphere and the peaceful outlook, combined with attentive yet unobtrusive service, made for a memorable dining experience.

For travellers considering Coronet Ridge Resort, it's worth noting that the Arthurs Point location is particularly well suited to self drive visitors, with plenty of complimentary parking. Situated approximately eight minutes from central Queenstown, it offers the best of both worlds – easy access to the energy and attractions of town, while providing a peaceful and serene retreat away from the crowds. One of my only disappointments was not having enough time to experience the resort's spa facilities…..which gives me the perfect excuse to return!
