Queenstown Weather Update - 22 Sept 2023

Queenstown Weather Update and Impacts

Over the past 24 hours there has been heavy rain in Queenstown and Southland which has impacted isolated parts of the region. The weather has now eased, however there are still some affected areas and roads.

Queenstown town centre

The most heavily impacted areas are limited to the streets above the Queenstown town centre. We would like to assure you and your clients that the town centre is open and accessible with safety signage and instructions in place where needed. The Queenstown Airport is open and unaffected, along with most other areas. Some care is needed while driving on affected roads.

PDNZ Actions
Our team has been working with clients to make alternative arrangements where necessary and will continue to do so as we receive updates.
For any changes that are being made, we will ensure you are updated and are fully across any amendments. While we are working through these challenges, please be aware there might be some slight delays in turnaround times, however we are doing our very best to ensure this is not the case. If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our team.

Road Closure Updates - South Island

In addition to Queenstown, the weather has impacted some other roads in the South Island.

  • West Coast - Road Closure: SH 6 Makarora to Haast - Due to multiple slips on this route, the road is closed and will continue to monitor for updates
  • Mount Cook - SH 80 Aoraki to Lake Pukaki (Mount Cook Highway) is currently closed due to snow and will continue to monitor for updates
